Family Counseling in Atlanta, GA
Support for Families Going Through Hard Seasons
Family counseling in Atlanta can help when family life isn’t the warm, easy picture you hoped for. Maybe you’re navigating the fallout of a divorce and trying to protect your kids. Maybe you’re building a blended family and it isn’t blending the way anyone imagined. Maybe caring for aging parents has stretched everyone thin, or there’s distance in the family that’s gone on so long it feels impossible to bridge.
Family counseling creates space for the conversations your family needs to have but keeps avoiding. It isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it, and I’m here to guide your family every step of the way.

What Family Counseling Can Help With
- Divorce and co-parenting adjustments
- Blended family counseling for stepparents, stepsiblings, and new routines
- Estrangement, long-standing distance, and family reunification
- Caregiving stress around aging parents
- Teenage issues that are affecting the whole household
- Sibling conflict that has carried into adulthood
How Family Therapy Sessions Work
Every family is different, so who’s in the room depends on what you’re working through. Sometimes it’s the whole family together, sometimes it’s a parent and one child, and sometimes it’s just the adults working out how to co-parent. In sessions, I’ll help your family:
- Get clear on what’s actually driving the conflict, not just the surface issue
- Create space for every person in the room to feel heard, including the kids
- Build practical ground rules for how your family communicates going forward
- Work toward specific, realistic changes instead of vague promises to “communicate better”
Not sure where to start? If the biggest worry is your son, see my teen counseling and parenting support. If the strain is mostly between you and your spouse, see my marriage counseling.

Your Atlanta Family Therapist, Daniel Gopin, LPC
I’m Daniel Gopin, a licensed couples and family therapist in Atlanta. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and have been practicing since 2015.
I don’t believe in circling the same conversation for months. My job is to help your family communicate better, understand one another, and rebuild genuine connection, with honest feedback and a plan, not just a sympathetic ear. In a direct yet gentle way, I ask the tough questions and offer concrete tools to move forward.

FAQ
Do all family members need to be in every session?
No. I’ll work with you to figure out who needs to be in the room for a given issue. Sometimes that’s everyone, sometimes it’s a subset of the family.
Can family counseling help with a teenager specifically?
Yes. If the main focus is your teen, you may also want to look at teen counseling, which I offer alongside family sessions.
How long are family counseling sessions?
Typically 90 minutes.
Do you accept insurance for family counseling?
I currently do not accept insurance. I can offer you a superbill which can be submitted to your insurance for out-of-network coverage
